Orikio (formerly OSO-AI) was named start-up of the year in Western France, a prestigious distinction awarded as part of the Entrepreneur of the Year Award by EY. This award recognizes the company's innovation with its innovation, the Augmented Ear of Caregivers, which now aims to conquer international markets, all the way to Japan.

In developed countries, in France, South Korea or Japan for example, those over 65 will represent between a quarter and a third of the population by 2050. An evolution of the age pyramid that will lead to an increase in chronic diseases, situations of dependence, and therefore additional tensions on health systems.

Faced with this observation, the start-up OSO-AI, has developed in Brest (Finistère) a new device, based on the work of Claude Berrou - a member of the Académie des Sciences - intended to improve patient follow-up, but also the working conditions of caregivers.

Analysis of the sound environment

Called the “augmented ear of caregivers”, this tool is in fact capable, thanks to artificial intelligence, of analyzing the sound environment of complex environments, such as a nursing room.Nursing home, housing for people with disabilities, or any other place to live. He thus detects the signs of danger - a cry, a fall, vomiting - and gives the alert to caregivers.

On a daily basis, this enhanced ear reduces the share of time-consuming tasks for teams, systematic rounds for example, while improving “the quality of care and the comfort of patients”, according to Philippe Roguedas, 49, co-founder with Gilles Debunne, 52, and Olivier Menut, 49.

To accelerate its development and the marketing of its device, OSO-AI conducted two successive fundraising campaigns for a total of 14 million euros from the Invacom, Breizh Up and Cemag Invest funds. Enough to allow the start-up to build a team of 55 employees and to refine the functionalities of its tool.

Focus on the international

“We have enriched our alert system, while making further progress on respiratory surveillance thanks to our work with the Pitié-Salpetrière hospital in Paris”, illustrates the manager.

Already present in Monaco and Switzerland, Orikio (formerly OSO-AI) should be established in Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands by the end of the year. The Breton start-up will participate, for the first time in October, in a Medical exhibition in Japan , a country for which it recruited a sales manager who worked there for 20 years. “In this area, the prospects for growth are very strong,” believes Philippe Roguedas.

Given the initial successes of this innovation on the market, OSO-AI, which does not disclose its turnover, aims to market 100,000 cases in France within five years.

*The 32nd edition of the Entrepreneur of the Year Award is organized by EY in partnership with Edmond de Rothschild, Samsic, Steelcase and Verlingue, and with the support of Bpifrance.
