Vesthimmerland

Launched as part of the European ACE project (Accelerating Home Care Innovation Ecosystems of the future) that this pilot was launched, providing a robust pilot environment for Orikio technology. Deployed in the municipality of Vesthimmerland (Denmark), the pilot program focused on improving security, quality of life, and the responsiveness of care teams for a nursing home and two residential facilities for persons with disabilities. This initiative demonstrates how European ecosystems collaborate to address the challenges of aging and home care by combining technological innovation and regional cooperation.

A territory facing the challenge of aging

Like many European countries, Denmark is facing an aging population combined with a growing shortage of care staff. This double pressure increases the need for monitoring technologies that are both high-performing and privacy-first monitoring. It is in this context that the municipality of Vesthimmerland deployed Orikio acoustic monitoring technology across three pilot sites: a nursing home and two residential facilities for persons with disabilities. Today, 30 residents benefit from this intelligent alert system.

Home Care

A territory facing the challenge of aging
Before Orikio, a shared observation

Before the deployment of Orikio, teams were facing several challenges…

Ensuring safety without compromising privacy

The primary challenge was finding a solution to detect critical situations (falls, calls for help, respiratory distress…) while fully respecting resident privacy. Existing alternatives were often seen as intrusive or unreliable; the goal was to combine high performance with respect for dignity.

Improving the quality of care

Beyond simple alerts, teams were looking for a system capable of concretely improving the quality of care: safety without unnecessary nighttime awakenings, identifying abnormal events, detection of epileptic seizures… The goal was to intervene better, faster, and with clearer prioritization.

A Solution Built for Seamless Adoption

Ease of use was essential. To be accepted and fully adopted, the tool had to integrate naturally into existing practices, without technical complexity or heavy training requirements. The technology empowering the delivery of care: discreet, intuitive, and reliable.

Improved Response Times

The technology automatically detects critical situations and sends targeted alerts to teams, allowing for more immediate and better prioritized care, eliminating the blind spots of legacy systems.

Enhanced Workplace Well-being

The effectiveness of the alert system and its ease of use have improved the daily life of teams, by reducing unnecessary rounds and the mental load. Its adoption was smooth and immediate in Vesthimmerland, with very positive feedback from the first weeks of use.

Increased Peace of Mind

Residents and vulnerable individuals feel more secure, which is confirmed by feedback from the field: several residents expressed an increased sense of tranquility.
